Moisture Getters for Hermetic Packages

Hermetron’s moisture getters for hermetic packages are compact and durable moisture-control capsules suited for sealed enclosures, Electronic Housings, Laser and high-reliability systems. Engineered for inside-package installation, these units help maintain low internal humidity levels, protecting sensitive components from condensation, corrosion, and long-term environmental degradation.

Manufactured from precision-machined stainless steel or aluminum to customer requirement, the desiccator integrates seamlessly into sealed assemblies while allowing efficient moisture absorption through its sintered Stainless Steel filter to prevent system contamination. Its rugged mechanical design ensures secure mounting and long-term operational stability in harsh environments.

How Moisture Getters Protect Hermetic Packages

Even a properly sealed hermetic package contains residual moisture — introduced during assembly, released by outgassing of internal materials, or admitted over time through minute leak paths. Inside a sealed enclosure, that moisture has nowhere to go. As the assembly cycles through temperature, water vapor condenses on internal surfaces, accelerating corrosion of bond wires and metallic interfaces, dendrite growth on biased conductors, and degradation of optical coatings.

A moisture getter intervenes by capturing water molecules through chemical or physical absorption, holding them within a dedicated capsule rather than letting them circulate inside the package. The result is a stable, dry internal atmosphere maintained over the operational lifetime of the assembly — extending the reliability of sensitive electronics, MEMS sensors, optical components, and laser systems housed inside.

Hermetron’s moisture getters deliver this protection in a precision-machined stainless steel capsule with a sintered filter, allowing efficient moisture absorption while preventing particulate contamination of the host system. The capsule is replaceable and reactivable, supporting long-service applications where the package itself is intended to remain in the field for decades.

Custom Configurations

Hermetron’s moisture getters can be tailored to fit a wide range of mechanical and environmental requirements. Body and flange geometries, mounting threads, surface finishes, and the absorbent material itself can be specified to match the host package and operational conditions.

Custom thread or flange interfaces to integrate with existing hermetic packages

Stainless steel or aluminum body construction per environmental and weight requirements

A range of moisture getter materials matched to the absorption profile and operating temperature

Optional protective membrane or mesh screen for added contamination control

Surface finish per customer specification

Engineering review and prototypes can be arranged for application-specific requirements.
